The Kuijper Modell & Formenbau GmbH is an SME which has been manufacturing custom product solutions for various businesses and sectors of industry and handicraft since its founding in 1989 and participates in their development upon request.
Origin of the idea, development of a complete solution for WPC deck boarding and subsequent marketing:
The idea emerged during the reconstruction of a single-family home in 2010. A terrace was to be built in this building to be made of either wood or WPC boarding.
The question of "wood or WPC?" stimulated a more rigorous research, leading to many insights and ideas.
The extensive processing of various wood materials revealed the pros and cons of individual types of wood.
The search in wood stores, home improvement stores and the internet for the purposes of exploring the pros and cons of WPC, however, did not lead to any useful insights. Hence, 25 samples from various WPC deck boarding suppliers were selected and tested in a special climate chamber. During these tests it was possible to simulate the impact of environmental factors over several years (heat, cold, humidity, dryness and UV radiation) in just a few months.
The result showed a very negative picture of the WPC specimens almost without exception.
Only one board resisted a 20-year stress in the climate chamber while all others displayed massive damages after just a short time.
In the next step we analyzed the substructures available on the market in detail and quickly realized that there was actually no fully-developed and consumer friendly system available. For example, in most constructions the removal of individual boards usually requires great effort, the installation is very complicated and associated with a destructive or cutting operation (e.g. screw) and is too time consuming for a layman. Due to the often very complicated systems the consumer is always dependent on an appropriate craftsmen / installer, since proper installation requires a degree of expertise exceeding that of a hobby craftsman as well as appropriate tools.
These findings led to the idea of developing a terrace system which would not display the above mentioned weaknesses.
The goal is to integrate the key criteria of a long service life, a substructure which is stable and easy to install and ease of assembly / disassembly of the WPC boards. In addition, only materials and components of the highest quality and durability should be used in the system, quality over quantity so to speak.
